the art of making tea

there are some treats that you never forget; a few years ago alice treated maude and i to afternoon tea at the teanamu chaya teahouse – housed in a coach house just off westbourne park road, its only open on a saturday and sunday and is truly a memorable experience to savour, especially if you are into the rituals of perfect chinese tea.   its definitely a girly treat, attention to detail with water temperature, beautiful oriental teapots and tableware.   the choice of teas is vast and beguiling, but Pei – the proprietor gracefully advises you what best suits your palate.  its definitely something to learn about, and coincidentally you can book onto a 2 hour masterclass to understand the making of tea and its ceremony.

you can also have courses in tea rituals at china life and tea tastings at postcard teas and for absolutely stunning teapots you must visit mariage freres in the basement of selfridges.

a few years ago- for mothers day –  maude made me the most beautiful embroidered napkin – i was really touched by her creativity and thoughtfulness;  she had bought all the materials from her favourite shop – slanchogled– in chalk farm, the napkin, the embroidery cotton and then you tubed how to embroider!!   so all that sitting on a computer can bring some useful skills!
