now that xmas and new year is over, its back to normal; met my girlfriend in golborne road and then dropped into some of the gift shops around portobello. if you are looking for more interesting and special tableware, there is certainly a big choice in the area. our first stop was native & co – beautiful utility gifts, mostly sourced from japan; next door is vessel selling contemporary ceramics and glassware – both are quite pricey, but very individual and unique. a short walk away is daylesford, who stock some kitchen things in the basement – lovely coffee cups and glasses and toast home has the lovely brickett and david coloured pottery and a few textiles. i am dying to try out the japanese tea cafe in wasoukan kimono boutique. not far away there is of course the lovely summerill and bishop, with their kitchen shop and beautiful tablecloth shop with the most stunning hand painted cloths and napkins in beautiful shades – took me back to the colours of the saris of mumbai.
i bought these little saucers from the old post office shop in our town in vejer – i gave them as a xmas gift, but loved the blue and white simple decorations.
