good morning heartache

i went to the proms for the first time – not the classical one, but the late night proms that they hold on certain nights – still at the Royal Albert Hall – but starting later at 9.45.  we saw Jamie Cullum with a full orchestra, choir and numerous other guests – it was a fabulously entertaining evening and if you are prepared to stand in the front middle section (the place which is usually the prime stalls), tickets only cost £10.  What a bargain!    Jamie was not only a great host, singer, musician, but also entertained and sang with his very varying guests,  including Eska, who he sang the beautiful Billie Holiday track, ‘good morning heartache’ with.   what beautiful lyrics.   there are a couple more late nights in august, so book early.

Good morning, heartache, you ole gloomy sight
Good morning, heartache, thought we’d said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seemed you had gone
But here you are with the dawn
Wish I’d forget you
but you’re here to stay
It seems I met you
When my love went away
Now everyday I start by saying to you
Good morning, heartache, what’s new?
Stop haunting me now
Can’t shake you, no how
Just leave me alone
I’ve got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues
Good morning, heartache, here we go again
Good morning, hearache, you’re the one who knew me when
Might as well get used to you hangin around
Good morning, heartache, sit down

Billie Holiday
