dog days of summer

did you know that july and august are known as the dog days of summer, hot, sultry days!  it started off baking hot here, but now we have the typical grey creeping in…….

Dog Days were popularly believed to be an evil time “the Sea boiled, the Wine turned sour, Dogs grew mad, and all other creatures became languid; causing to man, among other diseases, burning fevers, hysterics, and phrensies.” according to Brady’s Clavis Calendaria, 1813.

  1. Hi Christina,
Just to say I’m still loving your blog – so inspiring, full of beautiful and interesting places and things. I’m thinking of booking your Spanish retreat next year. Can you advise how easy it is to drive from Malaga to your place? And how to park when we get there? Or is it better to go by train and hire a car once there? And also, do you have a recommendation of a really amazing hotel – since you have such good taste – that we could also stay in at the end of our stay at yours? We will be bringing our two boys age 12 and 14.
Again, many thanks for continuing with your blog – you are appreciated!

    1. hi Minky, I would advise hiring a car, you can park, though not directly outside our house as a conservation area. Jerez, Seville and Gibraltar are much closer, but Malaga ok if your only choice. where do you want to stay after Vejer? if you email me, I can send you some suggestions of hotels. and thank you so much for your kind words and appreciation and support. sadly just lost one of my biggest fans to cancer. chrsitina x

  2. Hi Christina,
So sorry about your friend. Glad you gave her a lot of joy while she was still here.
I would like to visit Seville but maybe a little hot in July. I’ve got kids, so would like somewhere that might entertain them – don’t mind where but perhaps not entailing too much driving. Any special places you can recommend would be much appreciated.

      1. Thanks Christina. We can’t commit quickly I’m afraid as we may be moving house next summer. I’ll keep it on the back-burner for now but will definitely make it one day.
        Have a lovely summer.
