for great spanish food try Jose Pizzaro on bermondsey street – he has 2 places there, one informal tapas style bar and the other a restaurant. both places are very popular and busy, but the food is very tasty and authentic. he has just recently written a book on basque cooking – which has got to be the best food in spain. its been a while since we have been to san sebastian – its one of our favourite places in spain, the shell like beach, the chillida sculptures and the pinchos are all stunning.
if you are thinking of a holiday in san sebastian – which i do highly recommend, then combine it with a night in bilbao – and visit the spectacular guggenheim museum – you cant fail to marvel at the architecture. even the kids found it interesting – love jeff koons dog sculpture. hire a car in bilbao and then drive through the lush mountain sides to the beautiful concha bay of san sebastian and eat the famous tapas in one of the many bars that line the streets, or choose from one of the many michelin starred restaurants – arzac is the most famous.
