the lady in the van

i love that camden is full of eccentrics- alongside the tourists and goths of the market live the ‘artistic types’ – not only talented, but charismatic too;  there’s frank auerbach, who has a big show at the tate at the moment, beryl bainbridge – sadly gone now, but lived on my street, amy winehouse of course,  and not forgetting alan bennett, whose film ‘the lady in the van’ is now out.  its an entertaining biographical story of his relationship with the curious older lady who lived in the van parked on his drive for over 15 years;  through the story you learn essentially about bennett himself.
