carnations

carnations have such a bad reputation, they are always associated with old ladies and garage flower tubs!  but if you take particular shades, the carnation is actually a classic beautiful flower.  once popular as a button hole flower for weddings, this has been replaced by the rose and in the wedding that i photographed yesterday by gypsum and eucalyptus.  according to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on earth as Jesus carried the Cross. carnations sprang up from where the Virgin Mary’s tears fell as she cried over her son’s plight.
