sam wanamaker and jazz festival

my beautiful and talented daughter alice never ceases to surprise me – she sent robert and I tickets to see the artists Chano Dominquez and Nino Josele at the Sam Wanamaker playhouse at the globe theatre.  we had mentioned that we had never seen anything at the globe and as a present for our anniversary she posted us these tickets.  it was such a special and memorable evening, the fusion of flamenco guitar and jazz piano was harmonious – the setting just beautiful.  it will be something that we will both remember and cherish.  the Sam Wanamaker theatre is lit just by candlelight, houses around 300 people, though feels very intimate and is a jewel of a venue.    Dominquez and Josele were performing as part of the present Jazz festival  which robert has managed to enjoy a few concerts this week – it was enlightening for him to discover artists that he had never heard of.

as the globe theatre is outdoors, i guess  its not feasible to have plays in winter, so the wanamaker playhouse is a beautiful alternative – in the style of a jacobean amphitheatre its lit solely by candles during the performance.   i notice that you can do tours of both this building and the globe, which could be interesting.  samwanamaker

  1. That sounds like a magical place to hear music…what a lovely gift! I am off to see kinks musical this evening..won’t be as magical but hopefully fun! xx

  2. The kinks show last night was fabulous! I’m a great lover of the kinks and the energy of the show was superb! So much fun. Due to where I was sat, I was pulled up to dance which mortified me but just went with the flow and had fun! Great night. xx
