all over andalucia there are beautiful floor tiles – geometric, moroccan, they are just stunning and seeing them really wants you to go home and put in some colourful floors. casa siesta (my favourite hotel in our area) is a beautiful example of how you can mix tiles with pattern together with the simplicity of antique furniture, but still keep it clean, simple and serene – they also run the reclaimed tile company back in yorkshire, so they are easy to source. garimba and los quatro gatos – a french run tapas restaurant in vejer, both have interesting food and beautiful interiors using tiles.
you can simply add colour to a bathroom or kitchen by laying a beautiful floor with encaustic floor tiles. Encaustic floor tiles are coloured with oxides while the design is being formed, which gives a soft merging of colour, quite classical and antique in finish. The colours are muted, yet still give you lovely colours without being too bright. you can buy encaustic tiles from Fired Earth and Terra Firma tiles. This particular floor is locally bought in Spain and graces an otherwise white bathroom.
i love the simplicity of this tile design used in babbington house.
Beautiful tiles. Thanks for the post.
Just thought I’d mention it’s good to make sure you find someone who can lay them ‘properly’. They should be butted up tightly, so that their pattern shows undisturbed and they have the typical very fine grout line.
They’re not too difficult to lay yourself, though, especially for the reason that you can place them really close to each other.
