have decided to give frieze a miss this year – too loud, too big, too bright for me – its more like an art supermarket – i think its a wonderful event for london and this will be the first one that i have missed. what it does mean is that lots of interesting art exhibitions coincide in london in the hope to catch the extra audience. today we visited the estorick collection in islington – a gallery housed in a georgian house totally dedictated to italian art. its not a big show, but the pieces by Bruno Munari – a futurist are very interesting – his graphic ideas and colours are delightful, especially the early works and collages. there is a cafe in the garden, but you are of course very close to fashionable islington high street with its numerous cafes and shops.
my favourite street is camden passage with its interesting independent shops, susy harper, loop, vintage clothes from cloud cookoo land, fat faced cat vintage, decadent vintage and annies’ vintage. issys mily way looks a good place to have coffee or get some yummy chocolates from Paul A Young.
